When measuring sticky liquids, such as honey, molasses, or corn syrup, spray the measuring cup with non-stick vegetable-oil spray. The sticky liquid will slip right out of the cup and make cleaning up much easier.

December 2003 “Cooking Disasters” Winner —
Laurie Smith

I was cooking for my spouse's new set of co-workers, whom we both were trying to impress. They were all gathered in our living room which is open to the kitchen. I was at the stove cooking my sauce to go over the meal, which was just about ready. I decided to add a little more pepper which is stored in the cabinet above my stove range hood. I reached up on my tip toes to get into that cabinet and my blouse bottom edge caught fire on the gas stove burner. My shirt went up as quickly as one can imagine. I reacted very quickly and without thought, pulled that shirt off my head and threw it into the kitchen sink, all in one swift move. Everyone saw this...here I was standing there at the stove in my bra! I was not burned badly but I was very embarassed! After the shock of it all, we learned a cooking lesson and had a good laugh...after I put on a new blouse!
