February 2007 Cooking Tips Winner Sandra Hartley
When using tomato paste, it is usually hard to remove the entire contents from the can. Open, with your can opener, both ends of the can and you will find that you can just push one side and the paste will easily slide through the the can, out the other side, emptying the entire can effortlessly. And less mess.

When my children were younger their favorite treat was Jello squares. I had made a large batch of Jello and placed it on a top shelf of the refrigerator to harden. Soon after placing the pan in the refrigerator my two year old was looking for her juice cup when she spied the pan with the treats. Before I could stop her she tipped the pan spilling the contents over her head and onto the floor. I quickly began wiping up the floor to avoid the red Jello from staining the floor. After which I cleaned up a very upset little girl. However, it never dawned on me that a fair amount of Jello had spilled and splashed in the refrigerator as well. When I got back to the refrigerator, about two hours later, there was a thin skim of hardened Jello down the sides, shelves, into the vegetable drawer and into the bottom of the refrigerator. The inside of the refrigerator and most of the contents was encased in Jello. What a mess.
