March 2004 Cooking Tips Winner Gloria Sanders
When cracking eggs into a bowl, it is very frustrating when a small piece of eggshell also gets into the bowl. Don’t try to remove it with a fork or spoon – you’ll be chasing it around for quite a while. Instead, take a large piece of the eggshell you just cracked and just scoop it out. Works like a charm!

Cooking breakfast is easy, right? Well, one morning while company was visiting at my apartment, I made a fancy casserole breakfast. This meal was cooked in a commonly used dish (Pyrex 9X13). While juggling all my mornings’ work, I mistakenly put this Pyrex dish on a hot stove burner. Little did I know that Pyrex is a poor conductor of direct heat. BOOM! This dish explodes into a billion, hot pieces of glass, burning everything in site. The floor, the countertops, the carpet and table were all burned to some degree. Thankfully, no one was injured. So much for that security deposit!! Let this be some words of wisdom for you if you didn’t already know this could happen.
