If your box of brown sugar gets too hard, just pop it into the microwave for 30 seconds and it will be nice and soft and ready to use again. This works like a charm.

My husband and I wanted to have our first BIG Thanksgiving dinner. Fourteen people in a not so big apartment. No problem until we cooked my grandmothers famous Creamed Onions!!

I made the cream sauce in a pot and already had boiled the onions separately. I couldn't figure out how I was going to keep the sauce warm til it was ready to eat because I didn't have a double-boiler (which would have worked well). I decided to make my own double-boiler out of two same size pots. I put the cream sauce in the top, and water in the bottom. It worked great until I realized the pots were completely stuck together. I called my husband in the kitchen because I had no idea how to unstick them from one another. He suggested maybe cooling the bottom pan would help. He grabbed an ice cube from the freezer and ever-so-gently touched it to the pan. BOOM!!! Cream sauce everywhere!!! Ceilings, cabinets, floor, my husband, myself and a couple of guests- covered!! My husband took the brunt of it but was okay after some aloe. (always keep it handy!!)

Needless to say- for Christmas- I got a lot of double-boilers as gifts!!! I cried that day but laugh at it now.
