I found substituting soda pop for milk in bread machine recipes gives the baker a variety of flavored breads that have very good texture.

One afternoon, my brother and I were hungry, so he decided to make some macaroni and cheese while my parents were napping. After starting the macaroni, we discovered that we didn't have any fresh milk in the house. My brother timidly knocked on my parent’s door to ask if there was anything he could substitute for fresh milk. They told him to use evaporated milk and to look for a can of it in the pantry. So my brother grabbed the first can of milk he saw and proceeded to finish the macaroni and cheese. He dished two large bowls, one for each of us. After one bite, I knew something was wrong. I checked the can of milk he had used and discovered that my brother had added sweetened condensed milk instead of evaporated! Despite the error, my brother insisted that he thought it tasted fine, and ate his entire bowl. To this day, he still persists in telling us that his version of macaroni and cheese was delicious, though we all think he is just trying to save face!
